Warren explained that she has only had mild symptoms. "I am grateful for the protection that being vaccinated and the booster dose has provided me against serious illness," the senator said on Twitter.

Elizabeth Warren, a Democratic senator from Massachusetts and a former presidential candidate, reported this Sunday afternoon that she had tested positive for COVID-19.

Through the social network Twitter,

Warren appreciated having had all his vaccines against the coronavirus, including the booster dose

, and explained that he has only been experiencing mild symptoms.

Warren participated in the full Senate last week, before going into recess.

"I test myself for COVID-19 on a regular basis and while I tested negative earlier in the week, today I tested positive for a postvaccine infection," Warren tweeted.

“I am grateful for the protection that being vaccinated and the booster dose has provided me against serious illness,” she added.

The senator commended the population to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and receive the booster dose recommended by the health authorities.

"Together, we can save lives," he stressed.

About 30% of Americans of vaccine age have not yet received protection against infection and serious disease.

Warren's announcement comes amid the spread of the omicron variant of COVID-19, which is expected to become the dominant variant in the country, supplanting delta.

The Massachusetts senator did not clarify which variant of the virus she contracted.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country's leading expert on the pandemic, has warned of a possible saturation of hospital systems in the coming weeks due to the high rate of omicron infection.

Although the latest coronavirus mutation appears to develop less severe symptoms among vaccinated people,

Fauci said its transmissibility counteracts the mildness of the cases.

“If things continue like this, it is possible that in the next two weeks our hospitals will be subjected to great stress,

because in this country there are many people who are eligible to be vaccinated but have not done so yet ”, added the expert.

The White House unveiled a plan earlier this month to deal with the omicron threat this winter.

Among the measures, there are no new restrictions on mobility and the economy, but an increase in vaccination programs and tests to detect COVID-19 for free.
