The National Electoral Council of Honduras proclaimed Iris Xiomara Castro as the new president of the country by winning the position in the general elections with 1,716,793 valid votes, announced the president of the CNE Kelvin Aguirre on Monday on the national network of media.
Castro will be president for a four-year term starting on January 27.
The CNE also proclaimed the three presidential appointees and the deputies to the Central American Parliament.
On December 28, the declaration will be made for municipal corporations and deputies to the National Congress.
The general elections in Honduras were held on November 28.
