The scam is bold - and brought a Wolfratshauser pensioner a four-figure sum of money.

When he saw the fraud, it was too late.

Wolfratshausen - On Sunday morning a Wolfratshausen senior was the victim of a con artist.

The 81-year-old had previously withdrawn money from a bank on Bahnhofstrasse in Wolfratshausen.

When he went to the door, a younger man spoke to him.

He explained to the pensioner that he had forgotten money in the output chute when making a previous withdrawal.

He urged the senior to check whether there was still any money in the shaft when another withdrawal was made.

That was the undoing of Wolfratshauser.

As requested, he withdrew money from the machine again.

When he entered his secret number, the stranger must have looked over his shoulder.

He also managed to steal the senior's debit card.

He made the pensioner credible that the card had been withdrawn from the machine.

But that's not so bad, after all, the cardholder can report to the bank on Monday.

When the pensioner got home, he called his son and told him the story.

When the offspring checked his father's account, he found that it was already too late: 1,500 euros had been withdrawn from his account.

The senior immediately had the card blocked.

He described the fraudster to the police as follows: About 30 years old, about 1.75 meters tall and with dark blonde, short hair.

He had worn a suit and tie and looked well-groomed.

The police asked for evidence of the perpetrator on 08171/42110.

Protection against fraudsters: The police give these tips

The Wolfratshausen police would also like to make citizens aware of such trickery. She recommends everyone to handle money cards carefully. In addition, the PIN number should always be kept separate from the card. When entering the PIN, you should cover the keypad with your hand or another object - for example your wallet - in order to be protected from glances or video recordings. Anyone who suspects that their card data has been spied on should immediately call the nationwide emergency number 116 116 and report it to the police. The police also recommend checking bank statements regularly and contacting the bank immediately in the event of any abnormalities. Further tips are available at www.polizei-beratung.de.

Again and again, especially senior citizens are victims of fraudsters.

A retiree recently shared her experience of phone fraud.
