Zhao Lijian stated at a regular press conference that the US has imposed illegal sanctions on Chinese officials on the pretext of the so-called human rights issue in Xinjiang under domestic law. The relevant actions seriously interfered in China’s internal affairs, severely violated the basic norms of international relations, and seriously harmed Sino-US relations. He said that in response to the above-mentioned wrongdoing by the United States, China has decided to conduct reciprocal countermeasures in accordance with the "China Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law."

He also pointed out that Xinjiang affairs are purely China's internal affairs, and the United States has no power and no right to intervene indiscriminately. The United States should lift the so-called sanctions and stop interfering in Xinjiang affairs and China's internal affairs. China will respond further depending on the development of the situation.
