Hisense XClass TV: Cheap 4K HDR TVs with a Year of Free Peacock Premium

2021-12-21T22:37:07.947Z

The Hisense Class comes in 43- and 50-inch sizes for a starting price of just $ 298 and offers 4K HDR resolution, Dolby Atmos sound, and DTS: X.

The XClass TV is an interesting partnership between Hisense and Comcast with the aim of offering a good experience at a low cost.

Design

The Hisense XClass (A6GX) TV has an attractive design with small black bezels, two simple plastic mounts, and a simple, but effective control.

However, even though the TV looks good and has its classy look, it also sometimes has aspects that make it feel a bit cheap and is something that feels even more with the remote control, feeling like an empty accessory inside, big buttons and in general like those universal controls that are cheap that we buy for any kind of television.

Despite this, I liked using it and it looks great in a living room at home.

The unit I tested was the 50-inch one that features a 4K UHD panel with HDR (Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10).

Image, sound and port quality

The Hisense XClass TV has a 4K resolution that allows you to enjoy all kinds of content with relatively good detail and colors.

However, it is possible to tell the difference with more expensive TVs because I found the color reproduction and detail to be a bit higher on the panel, but it is difficult to complain at this low price.

However, the brightness it offers is enough to offer a good visual experience even in well-lit rooms.

However, there are televisions that offer higher brightness as well.

On the other hand, the sound is very comparable to many sound systems integrated in televisions - they do not offer the best quality, but it is good enough to enjoy what you are watching.

The Hisense TV offers Dolby Atmos and DTS: X sound that help improve the regular quality we find on a TV, which is good.

Despite this, it is clear that the sound lacks bass and depth.

In terms of ports, the TV XClass offers a good mix of options, including three HDMI (one ARC), all with a maximum resolution of 4K at 60Hz.

In addition, this Hisense and Comcast television has a regular USB port, coaxial connection (antenna), digital optical audio output and an Ethernet port so you can connect to the Internet if you do not want to use Wi-Fi.

Software, performance and benefits - what makes it special

This Hisense XClass television has the operating system called XClass TV, which would be based on Comcast's X1 operating system found in Comcast's Xfinity Flex TV boxes.

This platform can also be found on Sky Glass TV and the XiOne box.

The interface has a certain resemblance to Android TV, mainly integrating rows with apps and content.

The interface detail is fine, but nothing out of the ordinary.

On the TV, you can create your own watch lists, it shows you the apps or content you have recently watched, and it offers recommendations for content to watch.

The interesting thing is that the Hisense XClass TV comes with hundreds of pre-installed apps and offers 12 months of free Peacock Premium, the streaming service from Comcast (NBCUniversal).

The system also has voice assistance in English and Spanish.

In my experience, Google Assistant on televisions with Android TV or Google TV offers better command detection in English, but in Spanish I was surprised by the precision it had, something that is not very common to find in the United States because, of course, English is the language that give you the highest priority in product development.

Also, I liked that the voice detection is fast, although it can take a few seconds to process on many occasions.

Navigating the screens and menus is fluid, although sometimes navigating the app interface has sometimes taken a little longer than I expected to be fluid.

Also, although the Internet connection is good, it has happened to me a couple of times where if I turn it on and try to play or search for something on the Internet quickly, the TV does not respond correctly because it has not started the Internet connection.

Availability and price

The Hisense XClass TV is priced at USD $ 298 and USD $ 348, depending on the size.

This television from Hisense and Comcast is available in 43 and 50-inch sizes.

These televisions are initially sold through Walmart and Walmart.com.

A company spokesperson told me that Walmart was chosen as the initial partner because in the United States about 50% of the televisions sold in the country are purchased through this store.

conclusion

The Hisense XClass TV (50A6GX or 43A6GX) is a cheap 4K TV that offers a relatively good experience.

The design is attractive except for the control that feels too cheap, the image quality is not the best on the market but it allows you to enjoy the content and the sound is average.

Its performance is good and it sounds adequate, but what makes it stand out is mainly that it has an operating system from Comcast (Xfinity) that includes 12 free months of Peacock Premium (generally the year would cost you USD $ 58), its configuration seemed to me Simple and its price is very attractive considering that it has 4K HDR resolution.

For the discerning few, it is certainly a great option at this price, but Samsung and LG televisions that cost $ 100 to $ 150 more manage to reproduce a bit more vibrant content.

I think that the main competition for these Hisense TVs are the TCLs that are not very different in price (USD $ 318 and USD $ 359) and also use LCD technology.

However, these TCL TVs come with Roku which is an excellent platform and allows you to download apps like DirecTV Stream and Apple TV that are not present in XClass - it does have Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount +, HBO Max, Disney +, Hulu and ShowTime, among others).

TCL also has some TVs with similar features that run Android TV and has higher-end TVs that feature QLED technology that manage to deliver better picture quality.

Another competitor is Vizio, which offers TVs in these sizes at a similar price point, but it doesn't have a Roku TV or Android TV, so TCL can lead in that regard.

Either way, this is Comcast's first TV and it is a TV very similar to the Hisense A6G that shares the general design and features, but instead of having Android TV it has the Comcast operating system and the remote control is also different.

With this Hisense X Class TV, it does not open the door to Comcast in the television segment, but it also helps Hisense to expand its presence in the United States since it is still a less recognized company than Samsung, LG, Vizio and TCL.
