Israel ranks 15th in the world in the number of patent applications.
This emerges from the annual report of the Intellectual Property Association for 2020, which reviews the number of patent filings by country.
This is to keep the place from the ranking in 2019, with about 8,000 applications filed with the Israeli Patent Registrar during 2020, whether by foreigners who filed applications from abroad in Israel, or by Israelis who filed in Israel.
The first place on the list, with the largest number of patent applications, is occupied by China, which leads by a significant gap from the other places with about 1.5 million patent applications.
This is soon three times the second place, which the United States took with about 600,000 submissions. In third place is Japan, with about 300,000 submissions.
The data show that there was an increase in the proportion of Israeli women involved in patent applications, 16.5%.
This is an increase of 1.5% from 2019. Compared to the rest of the world in the gender context, Israel is in seventh place, while in first place is Spain with 27%, followed by China.
The report also examined the number of patent filings by Israeli residents only, and found that there was a 15% increase in the number of filings by Israeli residents compared to last year.
