The need for social housing remains high - also in Fürth.

Overall, the situation there is still relatively relaxed, say representatives of the authorities.

Nuremberg - The housing market is fiercely competitive - especially when it comes to social housing.

In Fürth, too, there are numerous applicants for each of these apartments.

Around 750 people who are dependent on cheap rent are currently looking for an apartment there.

180 of them come from abroad, 566 live directly in Fürth, reports

Fürth: The search for affordable accommodation can take time

The search can take time, especially since not every apartment that has been reported as vacant is suitable for every applicant.

Different requirements must be observed.

Severely disabled people need an apartment on the ground floor, while large families need a lot of space.

Other people don't want to move out of their familiar neighborhood.

It is particularly difficult for these citizens

The Lord Mayor of Fürth, Thomas Jung, would also like to have affordable apartments built for people who have little money but cannot claim social housing, as

reported by

. The head of the social welfare office, Michaela Vogelreuther, lists the citizens who find it particularly difficult to find accommodation: social welfare recipients, pensioners with low incomes or citizens with a Schufa entry. It looks even worse for people who do not have an apartment but want to finally live independently: homeless people from Oststrasse, recognized asylum seekers or seekers from the women's refuge.

The social welfare office has the right to propose holders of a level I housing entitlement certificate if housing associations report vacant apartments.

In the end, however, the landlord decides whether someone really gets an apartment.

As far as social housing is concerned, Vogelreuther rates the situation in Fürth as “good”.

“Of course, there could always be more,” she adds.

"A lot of projects got off the ground"

Fürth currently has socially subsidized apartments to offer in 2030.

300 are under construction or have yet to be approved.

In addition, the building cooperatives active in Fürth are planning 100 more.

These are not classic social housing, but they are given for the first time and new leases on favorable terms.

“The cooperatives are making a very important contribution to creating affordable apartments,” explains construction consultant Christine Lippert.

She is optimistic: "Recently, a large number of projects have been launched in Fürth."
