A boy (8) has to be in quarantine as a contact person for an infected classmate.

The official order for this is over a month late.

The health authorities are often overloaded in view of the high corona numbers in the fourth wave. The absurd consequences the chaos can sometimes have is shown in a letter that Irene Meier (name changed) from Munich has now received from the health department of the city of Munich. Her son Florian (8, name also changed) is said to be in quarantine. But the trigger, a corona case in the after-school care center, was a month ago at this point in time.

Florian is in the second grade of a primary school in Bogenhausen.

His day care center had to close on November 12th - a classmate had been infected with Corona.

Close contacts had to be in quarantine, Florian was not one of them and was allowed to go to school again on November 15.

Great for him, because the whole class was in the Pumuckl musical in the Gärtnerplatztheater that day.

"While the class was still there, the school received an email that all day care children had to be quarantined," says Florian's mother.

Fortunately, the boy was not infected - after the official Friday on the day of penance and prayer, he was allowed to go to class again on November 18.

Four weeks after the quarantine, the official order was in the mailbox

Last Friday, on December 17th, over four weeks after the quarantine ended, the official letter from the health department was in the Meiers' mailbox - dated December 10th.

It concerned the general decree "Quarantine of contact persons and suspected persons, isolation of persons who tested positive for the coronavirus".

Concerning Florian, it was said that he had been reported as a "close contact person" and had to go into quarantine by November 20 or be free after seven days.

How do such extremely late letters come about? In fact, the school administrators sent the pupils who they considered affected "home before they received the notification from the health department," writes a spokeswoman for the health department. Students should be isolated at home as quickly as possible. In addition, only the teachers in the affected classes know who would have had close contact with the person who tested positive. And: "Since there was a high volume of registration data in November and the immediate information of those affected - as in this case - went directly through the schools or after-school care centers, the quarantine confirmation was sent with a time lag." The notices on the quarantine order would be sent Delivered despite the delay as parents may need to show this to their employer.
