The Ecuadorian Ministry of Health confirmed at least 21 cases of the omicron variant in the country.
The increase in diagnoses has led the authorities to recognize that they face a moment of "epidemiological uncertainty."
The Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, indicated that sick people with the omicron variant are with mild symptoms, under epidemiological fence and receiving medical treatment.

He added that all these patients had the complete vaccination schedule against covid-19.
Garzón took the opportunity to call on the population to receive the vaccine against covid-19, to complete their vaccination schedule or to receive the booster dose as the case may be.
In addition, the minister announced that the application of the booster dose will be advanced from this week for people over 60 years of age who have completed 5 months since their second dose was injected.

The director of the Emergency Operations Committee, Juan Zapata, announced that they have not contemplated imposing confinement at Christmas and New Years, but that future measures will be evaluated.

"If we continue to put our shoulders, we will continue to reactivate little by little and keep our population healthy. Otherwise we will see serious cases and measures that we do not want to take," said Minister Ximena Garzón.

To enter government entities and public places such as restaurants, cinemas, shopping centers, people 12 years of age and older must present the vaccination card or certificate with the complete scheme.
Public and private events such as dances, festivals, corporate lunches or dinners, events in convention centers, popular dances, popular parties, attention in bars, discos and the like are prohibited.
