Among those who have been significantly harmed since the Corona period are the students who are currently in second grade.
It started in compulsory kindergarten, when the preparation for first grade in kindergartens was hampered, and continued when they went up to first grade in 1951, when most of the learning from home was done, using the zoom.
To get an idea of the extent of the harm to students in this stratum, we asked some parents to examine how their children cope with the writing of ten basic words in Hebrew.
Selected words: table, bookcase, towel, drawstring, newspaper, food, bowl, hat, scissors and watermelon.
It soon became clear: none of the children were able to spell all the words correctly.
Although spelling mistakes also occur in adults, educators say that these are too many mistakes for too many children.
"A second grader should know how to write these words without spelling mistakes," says a sophomore.
"They should know that a newspaper is written in A., they also study families of words, so in most words there is no reason for there to be a mistake.
Moreover, students at this stage are supposed to read sentences and entire texts, and even write a short story.
"Because the corona no longer has that expectation, but they certainly expect to be able to write basic words."
"The student sees a long text and gets stressed,"
It should be noted that the assessment is not a study and it is clear that there are students whose level is high, but parents and teachers indicate for a long time a basic difficulty in knowing letters, punctuation and so on.
"There is no doubt that in relation to second grades in previous years, schooling is delayed, there are not enough Hebrew hours and they are unable to close the gap," the educator adds.
"Only very assertive teachers require a more advanced pace - but this must be done with the harnessing of the parents who will sit on it with the children at home, otherwise nothing will help."
