Seine-et-Marne, 3rd metropolitan department where the Omicron variant circulates the most

2021-12-21T09:18:59.415Z

After Paris and Sarthe, Seine-et-Marne is the 3rd French metropolitan department where the Omicron variant is present in more than one c

The spread of the Omicron variant, initially detected in southern Africa and more contagious than the Delta variant, continues to spread throughout France but at such different rates that certain metropolitan departments stand out spectacularly.

This is shown by the latest statistics from the French public health ministerial agency, highlighting certain departments where more than one in four patients is affected by Omicron.

Among these most affected departments, Paris with 34.3% of cases on December 20, Sarthe (29.1%) and Seine-et-Marne (26.6%). More broadly, the Île-de-France region is particularly affected by the Omicron variant at a rate of 23.1% in Yvelines and Val-de-Marne, 21.4% of cases in Hauts-de-Seine, 20 , 3% in Essonne, 18.7% in Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-d'Oise. By comparison, the neighboring Oise has 11.7%.

While the Delta variant is no longer making progress in the country, the driving force behind the Covid-19 pandemic in France appears to be the Omicron variant.

Consequently, the department being strongly impacted by this mutation of Covid-19, the epidemic situation in Seine-et-Marne continues to accelerate, as indicated by the prefecture.

For example, on December 17 the incidence rate of the department amounted to 558 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants (against 440 cases two days earlier), which represents an increase in the number of cases of 4% in 48 consecutive hours. to an increase of 87% over the previous ten days (December 5 to 15).

Seventeen vaccination centers including two operational vaccinodromes

The Minister of Health Olivier Véran said he expected such a spread of the Omicron variant that it will gradually become the majority in France in the coming days. The figures given above have indeed increased significantly in just 24 hours. Thus, between December 19 and 20, the number of cases increased the most sharply in the Ile-de-France departments. Particularly in Yvelines (+ 40%), Val-de-Marne (+ 32%), Paris (+ 26.1%), Les Hauts-de-Seine (+ 19.5%), Seine-et- Marne (+ 13.7%), etc.

"To contain this degradation, in addition to respecting barrier gestures, vaccination, and in particular the booster dose for all people who received their last injection more than 5 months ago, is the best way to fight collectively and individually in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic. Also, it is important that eligible people can be vaccinated as soon as possible, to avoid serious forms and the risk of hospitalization, ”encourages the prefecture of Seine-et-Marne. “The two messenger RNA vaccines, Pfizer and Moderna, are fully mobilized in the department (…). We recall in this regard that 17 vaccination centers are open and supplied throughout the department, including two large capacity centers administered by the Seine-et-Marne Departmental Fire and Rescue Service in Ozoir-la-Ferrière and Fontainebleau. In addition, ephemeral vaccination operations are organized during the month of December, and listed on the site of the Prefecture www.seine-et-marne.gouv.fr ”, indicates the prefecture.
