An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale rocked the South Sandwich Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean today, but no injuries were reported.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck at a depth of 35 kilometers at latitude 57.7804 degrees south and longitude 25.2635 degrees west, while no tsunami warnings were issued.
The South Sandwich Islands is an archipelago that forms part of the South Georgia region in the Atlantic Ocean of the United Kingdom.
