Christmas is just around the corner and for many it is time to go to the Corona test center again before visiting the family.

Many operators also open their doors on public holidays.

Munich - So far, there has probably been the calm before the storm.

However, the corona test centers in Bavaria are already preparing for a rush of people who want to do a quick test again shortly before the festival.

Operators expect a high number of tests by December 23rd at the latest.

A lack of self-tests from retailers could exacerbate the situation even further.

Corona tests before the festival: Operators also open on the holidays

Test dates are still available before Christmas in many cities and districts in Lower Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate.

Barbara Absolon from the Bavarian Pharmacists' Association told

BR

that the number of corona tests had increased since the free tests were reintroduced.

But they assume that there will be another big increase shortly before the festival.

The pharmacist from Deggendorf therefore wants to keep her test center open over the holidays.

"We just want to make it available to the population so that they can test themselves, that they can go carefree into the holidays".

In Upper Franconia you can't complain about too much work at the beginning of the week either.

In Wunsiedel a manageable group of people willing to test came, writes the

.

"Tomorrow we want to go to the sauna, there is 2G plus, that's why we are here," says a middle-aged couple at the test station.

“I'm not vaccinated and have to test for work every day,” says another visitor.

Holger Dressel, who works for the operator of the test center 21 Dx, assumes that the rush will come on December 23rd.

He has already increased his staff for this.

Dressel believes that there will be a lot going on again at Christmas itself, which is why we urgently recommend making an appointment online.

Corona tests from retailers are in short supply

Another reason for the high influx before Christmas could be the lack of self-tests in retail.

The home kits are out of stock in many supermarkets, drug stores and pharmacies.

That is why there is only the alternative test center for many people.

Christoph Schneidewin also notices that.

He is the director of the Altmühlfranken Clinic, which operates test stations in Weißenburg, Gunzenhausen and Ellingen.

Around 1000 corona tests are currently carried out there every day, Schneidewin told the
