Sybille Gruber makes senior citizens' eyes shine at Christmas: she has initiated a special campaign in Wolfratshausen.

It is a huge success.

Wolfratshausen - It is no great secret that the Christ Child relies on the support of angels in fulfilling their tasks.

On the other hand, the fact that angels can also be found in the Wolfratshausen citizens' office is.

One of them goes by the name of Sibylle Gruber, is 37 years old, works there as a pension and social advisor - and is responsible for the Christmas campaign "Wunschbaum".

The principle is easy to explain: Seniors aged 60 and over can write down a Christmas wish on a piece of paper.

This is hung anonymously on a Christmas tree.

Citizens, who in turn are ready to fulfill these wishes, can pick up the slip of paper in the town hall and then hand in the beautifully wrapped gifts there.

Gruber came up with the idea a year ago. “I drove home in the car,” she recalls, “when the radio reported about the same campaign by the workers' welfare in Germering.” The 37-year-old was immediately clear: “That would be something for us too. I was looking for an alternative anyway. ”So far, the city had celebrated a“ senior citizens' Christmas ”with the elderly in the Loisachhalle with coffee, cake and a raffle. “But we had to skip that due to the corona,” regrets the pension and social advisor. The seniors were very sad about it, "they were always looking forward to the raffle". What Gruber noticed again and again was that at that time many people took their gift wrapped up home with them."They wanted to put it under the tree on Christmas Eve - so that they too had a present to unwrap."

Gruber implemented her idea, presented it together with Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner and senior adviser Dr.

Ulrike Krischke.

“Last year we had 97 wish lists,” she says.

"When we handed over the presents, there were certainly tears at every second door, because the people were so happy - and we were happy with them."

This year, a total of 146 senior citizens are waiting for their wishes to be fulfilled - all of which are extraordinarily modest.

"Mainly care products such as shower gel and lotion or a voucher for foot care or a visit to the hairdresser," says Gruber.

Cookies and a stollen are also on the list.

"One lady wanted a big plush donkey, another a travel alarm clock."

Just as broad as the spectrum of those who wish is that of those who give it.

Sometimes it's individuals, sometimes families.

"Even children want to take on a wish with their pocket money."

"They also come from Egling, Eurasburg or Geretsried."

Or from Königsdorf - like Lisa Grasberger, a member of the local health support association and almost Gruber's pedant in the community.

"She called me because she was about to bake 70 sachets of cookies for the Advent service - and offered to make a few more sachets for our campaign."

Meanwhile, boxes with the gifts are piled up in Gruber's office.

"It looks like the Christkindl-Station south here," she says with a smile.

But best of all: There is not a single note left on the Christmas tree.

“Everyone gets their wishes fulfilled.

I can only say thank you. "
