The people on board a cruise ship that departed from Miami, Florida, and arrived in Cartagena, Colombia this Wednesday, will not be able to disembark, after it was detected that six crew members and one passenger tested positive for covid-19 .

This was reported this Wednesday by the District Administrative Department of Health of Cartagena de Indias (Dadis), in a message on social networks.

"Passengers and crew of the Seven Seas Mariner cruise ship, which arrived in the city, will not get off the boat. We made this decision after evaluating the epidemiological risk," the statement explained.

It is not clear if the seven COVID-19 cases on the ship correspond to the omicron variant.

Dadis added in his message that the passengers who tested positive "are stable and none required transfer to a hospital."

He also indicated that "immediately after receiving the information, the contingency protocol of the cruise operation was activated and it was determined whether the infected will remain isolated in quarantine inside the ship."

All other travelers and members of the cruise crew must remain on board in Cartagena until further notice due to the "epidemiological risk," the department said.

And he clarified that this situation does not create a risk for the city.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises, the company to which the cruise belongs, had not publicly commented on the incident on Wednesday.

He also did not reply to a request for comment sent by CNN.
