Australia is also currently reporting more corona cases than ever before.

However, from now on the situation is being dealt with in a different way in Down Under than it has been announced in this country.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it was still necessary to adapt the measures to the changing virus.

But:

Scott Morrison, Australian Prime Minister:

“There will be no more lockdowns.

We will not paralyze people's lives again.

We will live with this virus - with common sense and responsibility. "

Morrison said the country must leave the "hard line" of government behind and treat people "like adults."

Scott Morrison, Australian Prime Minister:

“There will be variants other than Omicron.

And then we need to make sure that as a country and as a government across the country we have taken measures that Australians can live with.

That means we need to move from a culture of regulation to a culture of responsibility.

This is the only way we can live with this virus in the future. "

On December 15, after nearly two years, Australia reopened its borders to vaccinated workers and foreign students.

The country wants to stimulate the crisis-ridden economy and get international travel going again.

The opening should also be possible through vaccination across the board.

Scott Morrison, Australian Prime Minister:

»We all have our own responsibility in the community and for our own health.

People should get vaccinated.

Those who do not get vaccinated have a higher risk of contracting the virus, getting very seriously ill and dying from the virus. "

The Australian prime minister urged states to reopen hundreds of vaccination centers.

These were previously closed when demand in the country fell.

In Australia, over 90 percent of people over the age of 16 have been vaccinated twice.

In the past, rapid lockdowns and consistent contact restrictions had contributed to the fact that comparatively few people in Australia have contracted Covid-19 so far.

The country with around 25 million inhabitants has recorded around 2100 deaths to date.

Now there should be fewer rules, but more personal responsibility - quite unlike in many European countries, which are expecting the start of the Omikron wave in the next few days.
