Hulot affair: "We knew" tell women politicians on RTL

2021-12-22T08:07:18.153Z

In an investigation carried out by RTL one month after the Nicolas Hulot affair, politicians recount the omerta around the behavior of the former minister and ex-host, accused of rape and sexual assault.

A month after the Hulot affair, triggered by an investigation by a Special Envoy where five women accused, with their faces uncovered, the former minister of rape and sexual assault - which the person strongly denies - RTL polled, this December 22, several women politicians.

The latter also testify to a problematic behavior of the former Minister of the Ecological Transition and many assure that they were aware of these accusations, while testifying to the omerta which had then settled in the political environment.

The RTL journalist recounts having regularly received the same response from women politicians who have worked with Nicolas Hulot:

"we knew, we knew"

, as Ninon Guinel, chief of staff of the green mayor of Lyon Grégory, testifies on her microphone. Doucet, and signatory of a “political Metoo” column in

Le Monde

, on November 15.

She recounts the reputation of Nicolas Hulot, when she was a very young parliamentary collaborator:

"He said to himself in the corridors of the Senate, exactly as for Denis Baupin at the time: 'do not find yourself alone in the elevator with him '.

It was known, but nobody did anything ”.

'Don't be alone in the elevator with him'

Ninon Guinel, chief of staff to the green mayor of Lyon, testifies to the reputation of Nicolas Hulot when she was a young parliamentary collaborator.

An employee dismissed for a dubious reason?

Ninon Guinel then tells how Pauline Lavaud, a young environmental activist, was excluded from the campaign of Nicolas Hulot in 2011 - then a candidate for the party's primary - for a reason at least "

heartbreaking

", comments the journalist from RTL:

" When he has someone from his campaign who says to Pauline: 'we do not take you in the campaign team, because you excite him too much', that means that we knew it.

So if among the Greens, we knew it at the time of the primary with Eva Joly, there is no reason that Emmanuel Macron does not know it when he takes him as Minister of Ecology.

(...) He knew it ”.

The man who would have taken this decision to dismiss Pauline Lavaud is Pascal Durand, one of the founders of Europe Écologie Les Verts, now a Member of the European Parliament.

During an SMS exchange with RTL, he neither confirms nor denies, while redirecting the journalist to other members of Hulot's campaign team.

Jean-Paul Besset, one of the relatives of the person concerned, defends him:

"We have never witnessed predatory behavior by Nicolas Hulot"

, he said, while conceding a behavior of

"heavy seducer"

.

And to qualify:

"we clearly draw the line between what is part of the cultural behavior of men, ordinary machismo, and violence or aggression

.

"

A line of defense that annoys Pauline Lavaud, who wonders about this definition of "heavy dredge".

And to underline:

"He must have known that Nicolas Hulot pissed off women, it is not trivial".

Alerts at the time of the Baupin affair

Other alerts would have been given when the Denis Baupin affair, accused of harassment or even sexual assault in 2016 - the facts will be dismissed for prescription in 2017 -, as reported by the recent unfortunate candidate for the primary environmentalist Sandrine Rousseau :

“In the Denis Baupin case that I denounced, a testimony spoke of inappropriate acts by a famous man in the Hulot Foundation.

We assumed it was Nicolas Hulot ”

.

Already, at the time, women environmentalists then try to alert, in vain, remembers at the microphone of RTL Annie Lahmer, a complainant of Denis Baupin and Ile-de-France advisor to the Greens, admitting herself to have had hard to believe the accusations against Hulot.

The basic problem, then estimate many interlocutors questioned by RTL, is not so much Nicolas Hulot as the feeling of impunity of certain men of power, and of the omerta reigning in this environment.
