At 6 o'clock in the evening on the 22nd, it was reported that a citizen was in the woods near the upper Cheung Sha Beach and found smoke coming out. Suspected the fire, they reported the incident.

Rescue personnel arrived at the scene and found debris on the site on fire. The fire was put out by firefighters. During the period, rescuers found a suspicious man. Someone suddenly attacked a firefighter with a shovel and fled.

Upon seeing this, the policemen chased after him and found the suspect again in the woods. Someone was emotional, danced a torch in his hand, and threw a hard object at a male police officer.

According to the police, the officer issued a verbal warning to the suspect to no avail, so he subdued him with pepper spray.

After preliminary investigation, the 29-year-old non-Chinese man was arrested on suspicion of "assault causing actual bodily harm", "attacking a police officer" and "arson".

The case was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Team of the Lantau Police District for follow-up.

The firefighter in the attack sustained injuries to his hands and back, while the arrested person was unwell. The two were awake by an ambulance and rushed to North Lantau Hospital for treatment.

It is understood that the arrested person is of Panamanian nationality and holds a local ID card.

At the time of the incident, he was burning branches and other debris for a campfire, but he was suddenly emotional for unknown reasons.
