The DB store at Neubiberger Bahnhof has been empty for twelve years.

Now Transport Minister Kerstin Schreyer has even intervened.

Neubiberg - If the never-ending story weren't so sad, one could smile at the demonstrative irony of Deutsche Bahn.

But because the vacancy in the former “DB Service Store” at Neubiberg station has been going on for twelve years, nobody laughs anymore at the railroad billboards, which are in stark contrast to reality and which customers perceive as derisive impudence.

"A warm welcome to Neubiberg station", so the railway writes in large letters, and: "My shopping station - always there for me."

Rail customers are upset

Who is this Deutsche Bahn message addressed to?

For rats, ants and other animals, the "DB Service Store", which has been rotting since its closure in October 2009, has long been an attractive refuge.

The railway customers, however, only shake their heads angrily: For twelve years now, they have been promised time and again that the railway will put the building back into operation "promptly" with a kiosk, bakery, café and whatever other letters of intent have circulated over the years .

When asked by Münchner Merkur, a railway spokesman confirmed the unmistakable factual situation: “There is currently no new state of affairs that we could report.” So again a year has passed in which - contrary to all assurances - nothing happened.

The community has been struggling to buy it for years

A nuisance for the community of Neubiberg, which has been trying in vain for years to buy the vacant property from the railway in order to force a revival on its own. “We are still interested in a purchase, but we cannot accelerate anything,” says Thomas Schinabeck, the main office manager in the Neubiberg town hall. “Deutsche Bahn decides whether or not to sell the building, we depend on that.” Like many others, he feels the situation as “very unsatisfactory”.

In the past, prospective tenants had repeatedly expressed their interest in taking advantage of the attractive location.

However, some contracts did not come about because, according to interested parties, the railway had made excessive demands with the character of a toggle.

According to reports, a kebab shop operator is currently flirting with the property, but there is nothing official about it.

Mediate Minister Schreyerwill

The "Causa Neubiberg" has now even penetrated to Transport Minister Kerstin Schreyer, who is currently pushing a project "Railway expansion Munich region".

The annoying permanent status in Neubiberg does not fit in with this at all, and as a constituency member of the CSU, the Unterhachingerin has a double interest in literally bringing "more train" to the infrastructure at the station.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Transport announced: “If the State Ministry wishes to present a moderation on the part of the municipality or DB, there is basically a willingness to do so.” So that the sad appearance of a ruined building will one day be a thing of the past and S-Bahn customers will reunite Be able to buy coffee or a pretzel.
