A fire broke out in Kwai Chung. At about 4 am, a unit on the 20th floor of Kwai Chung Building, Kwai Fong Village, suddenly burst into flames. A large amount of smoke poured out of the street. Many residents reported that someone was trapped in the unit and their lives were in danger.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and opened their throats to fight the blaze, and assisted the evacuation of about 200 residents to a safe location on the ground.
The firefighter found a woman in a coma in the unit and was later certified dead by an ambulanceman.
The surname of the deceased woman was Zhang (62 years old), and there were a lot of sundries in the unit involved.
In addition, there was a cat and a dog in the unit, but they were certified dead at the same time.
Due to the eagerness to escape, some children did not have time to put on enough clothes and felt cold in the cold night. When the rescuers saw this, they put on reflective insulation blankets for the children.
After preliminary investigation, it is believed that a short circuit of wires at the above site has caused a fire. There is no suspicious cause of the fire. The cause of death of the female victim has yet to be determined after a post-mortem.
The ambulanceman covered the child with reflective thermal blankets.
