Valérie Pécresse went to Nagorno-Karabakh on Wednesday, accompanied by Michel Barnier and Bruno Retailleau.
The presidential candidate wanted to show her support for the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh by meeting President Arayik Haroutiounian, at the end of a three-day visit to Armenia during which she was received by the main political and religious authorities of country.

As president of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse had passed a resolution for the official recognition of this self-determined republic considered by the Armenians as a "
shield
" against neighboring Azerbaijan.
The French Senate had taken a similar resolution.

The candidate evoked several additional avenues to consolidate the peace process and stability in this region, considered the cradle of Christianity threatened by Islamist expansionism.
