A missing college student was found in a basement and was reunited with her family on Saturday after losing track of her on Dec. 13, Snow College officials reported at a news conference Sunday.
Madelyn Allen was found in a Wayne County, Utah, home, university police said.
Brent Brown, a 39-year-old man from Utah, was taken into custody, according to Snow College Public Safety Officer and Police Chief Derek Walk.
Brown was charged with rape, rape, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated battery and obstruction of justice, according to documents filed in the Sixth Judicial District Court of Wayne County, Utah, on Tuesday.

Brown's attorney, Michael Labrum, did not immediately respond to multiple calls to comment on the case.
"This is an ongoing investigation. And there are certain aspects that we are still investigating and trying to fully understand," Walk said Sunday.

The missing girl was in a suspect's basement
Brown said he met Allen on the KIK instant messaging app and they planned to meet in Ephraim, Utah, on Dec. 13, according to the indictment.
Brown picked her up, immediately grabbed her phone and turned it off, and drove her nearly 90 miles away to her home in Loa, Utah, according to the documents.
The next day, Brown let Allen text his parents, but picked up the phone shortly after, according to the indictment.
Allen said he wrote to his parents "I love you."

After seeing a news report on Allen's disappearance, Brown said he threw her phone away.
And after being contacted by authorities on December 18, he put the rest of his belongings in a suitcase.
That same day, police arrived at Brown's home and observed Allen's college ID, "in plain sight," according to the indictment.
Brown was arrested shortly after and had his Miranda rights read to him.

Police found Allen in the basement "covered in coal" and without clothes, the indictment says.
"Snow College expresses its deep appreciation to the many police officers and agents who have worked on this case," the institution said in a press release.
"The help of the public to share information has also been essential and is appreciated," he added.

Allen's parents told CNN in a statement: "Words cannot express our gratitude for the show of love we have received. We are eternally grateful for Maddie's miraculous return, for all who played a role in bringing her home. and for those who are now helping her begin the recovery process. "
They also asked for space while the family tries to recover.
