An 80-year-old Kiryat Yam resident was killed this evening (Thursday) as a result of a vehicle hit on Histadrut Boulevard in Haifa.

Police have begun investigating the circumstances of the fatal accident.

MDA received a call at 20:36 about a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle, MDA medics and paramedics arrived at the scene and reported a man with multiple systemic injuries, with no signs of life and were forced to determine his death.

A senior paramedic riding an MDA motorcycle, Itai Mazor, said: "The wounded man was lying on the road tens of meters from the cart with which he was moving.

He suffered a very severe multi-system injury and after medical tests we have no choice but to determine his death.

The 24-year-old driver of the vehicle was agitated and did not need to be evacuated to a hospital. " 

Later, however, the Rescue Union reported that the driver was taken to Rambam Hospital in a light condition.
