Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock responded to criticism of her English.
At a meeting with her counterpart from Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, on Wednesday, Baerbock said: "The fact that we speak with one voice on these questions, speak the same language, was shown again at our lunch today."
Then she added, addressed to Asselborn: "Shortly before Christmas, I can't help but make a little joke: speak the same language with perfect German - some here in the country also look at my English." Asselborn is known for being excellent German known with only a slight accent.
Baerbock said she was looking forward to further exchanges with Asselborn.
He replied: “You don't see whether my German is so perfect in Luxembourg.
But I'm trying. "
Baerbock had been presented with a German accent by critics at press conferences held in English during her first inaugural trips abroad.
At their meeting, Baerbock and Asselborn had expressed concern about the Russian troop movements near the Ukrainian border.
It is of the utmost importance that Russia return to the negotiating table, said Baerbock.
