Memmingen - On the Tuesday before Christmas, the Memmingen district court opened the criminal trial for manslaughter from last March in Bad Wörishofen.

The 28-year-old Rusi I. is said to have stabbed his partner to death on March 28th while drunk.

The jury, chaired by Judge Christian Liebhart, had to deal with another homicidal offense within two weeks.

At the beginning of the trial, prosecutor Teurer read out the manslaughter charge. The young Bulgarian citizen is accused of killing his partner, who was also drunk, with three different kitchen knives and a total of 35 stabs. The act is said to have happened in a workers' accommodation in Bad Wörishofen. Before his arrest, Rusi I. worked as a parcel deliverer in the Lower Allgäu. The defendant was arrested on the day of the incident and has been in custody ever since.

The court has appointed several appraisers and experts to assess the course of events, the motive and the sanity.

Lawyer Alexander Esser announced even before the prosecution was admitted that his client had considerable memory gaps.

In addition to the experts, other witnesses will be heard in January 2022, including the defendant's mother.

She still lives in modest circumstances in Bulgaria and has to travel specially for this.

If the court follows the public prosecutor's office and convicts the accused of manslaughter, the law provides for a prison sentence of no less than five years, and in particularly serious cases life imprisonment.

The process will continue from the second week of January.
