Arancini in Popsicle Pattern: Rice Pancakes Filled with Cheese Israel today

2021-12-23T15:56:34.257Z

With simple raw materials, wet hands and a suitable mold - you too can easily make arancini in a popsicle mold, and right away you will start speaking Italian

I am a big fan of kitchen equipment and gadgets.

What is a big amateur?

Saying "addicted" would be more accurate.

In short, very pleasant, my name is Sarit Atar and I am a drug addict of kitchen utensils, equipment and gadgets.

And from my other hobbies: taking some appliance / kitchen utensil out of context.

When I saw this mold, which is made of silicone and was originally intended for making popsicles in the shape of hearts, I immediately imagined how I make arancini in it, the same Italian rice pancakes stuffed with cheese and coated in a great crispy coating and served with tomato sauce.

Such as pancakes that bite into and realize that heaven is here, and nowhere else.

The name Arancini in Italian means "oranges", "little oranges" if you want to sharpen, and this name is given to this dish because originally the arancini is made as small balls, which together with the golden coating look like little oranges.

So even if you do not have the heart pattern, you can of course prepare the dish in the original ball shape.

Raw materials:

  • 2 cups round rice (and no other type!)

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil

  • Teaspoon of salt

  • A pinch of ground white pepper

  • 4 cups water for cooking the rice

  • 2 eggs

  • 3 tablespoons plain flour

To fill:

  • 1 cup grated feta cheese

  • 1 cup hard / yellow grated cheese

Coating:

  • 1 cup flour

  • 2 scrambled eggs

  • 2 cups bread crumbs of the golden type

  • A small pan with a little deep oil for frying

For the sauce:

  • Each tomato sauce has a smooth texture that goes well with pasta

Preparation:

1. Soak the round rice in tap water for an hour, and strain.

  • Heat some of the oil in a saucepan, add the rice, salt, white pepper and water, stir, cover the saucepan and cook the rice until it is ready.

When it is ready, cool it to room temperature.

This step can also be prepared in advance the day before, and keep the rice covered in the refrigerator.

  • When the rice is no longer hot, add the eggs and flour, and mix well.

  • In a separate bowl, mix the cheeses well.

Prepare three small bowls: one with flour, the other with two beaten eggs and the third with bread crumbs.

  • Using

    wet palms

, take a small ball amount from the rice mixture, flatten on the palm, place a flat teaspoon of the filling and close on all sides so that the cheese is inside and only rice is visible on the outside.

If you have a heart mold for popsicles, insert and clamp into the mold to get a heart shape (the high-quality molds that are available at the "Cook & Bike" network are recommended).

If not - just roll between the palms into a ball shape (it is also possible to form a flat patty, the main thing is that the filling will be inside the rice).

  • Roll in flour and then in the beaten egg, and finally in bread crumbs.

Next, fry in a pan with oil on both sides until golden, remove and place on a wire rack or absorbent paper.

  • Serve with tomato sauce.
