In less than a week the eyes of the whole world will be married to Times Square to receive the new civil year.
But this year, because of the Omicron variant, the most recognizable square streets in the world where everyone usually counts together the last seconds of the year, will be a pale shadow of previous years.
Instead of 58,000 people flocking to the streets each year, only 15,000 will be allowed to arrive, and not before 3 p.m.

Also, following the dramatic steps to halt the omicron wave in New York in recent days, all present will be forced to wear a face mask, Mayor Bill de Bellasio's office announced.
As already announced about a month ago, those who do not prove that they are fully vaccinated will not be allowed to enter the area, but children under the age of five (who do not yet have a regulatory approved vaccine) will be able to accompany a vaccinated person.
"We did not pray for this situation during the holidays, but we can still enjoy the atmosphere this year," said City Health Commissioner Dave Chukashi.
The decision to make the events limited is particularly painful for the outgoing mayor of Belsio, as only a month ago - before the Omicron was known - he proudly declared that this year, "we will celebrate massively, with all our might" as a sort of victory party over the Corona.
One can take solace in the fact that last year only medical staffs and a limited number of guests were allowed to enter the complex at the festivities.
