Dominican Extradited to US Will Face Drug Trafficking Charges

The United States Attorney's Office in San Juan reported on Wednesday that Colombian authorities extradited the Dominican César Emilio Peralta Adamez to face drug trafficking charges presented in the federal court of the District of Puerto Rico.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, Peralta was the leader of a transnational criminal organization based in the Dominican Republic.

The organization allegedly received cocaine shipments from Colombia and Venezuela and transported them to Puerto Rico and the United States.

When was Peralta Adamez arrested?

In coordination with foreign officials, Peralta was located and detained in Cartagena, Colombia, on December 2, 2019 at the request of the United States.

The Department of Justice's Office of International Affairs assisted in the arrest and extradition of Peralta Adamez from Colombia.

"This arrest and extradition underscores the collaboration and cooperation among our law enforcement partners, as well as our commitment and determination to combat transnational organized crime," said US Attorney W. Stephen Muldrow.

Drug trafficking indictment

On November 28, 2018, a federal investigative jury in the District of Puerto Rico filed charges against Peralta, accusing him of conspiracy to import heroin and cocaine into U.S. territory and of distributing five kilograms or more of cocaine for import purposes. illegal to USA
