The government of Ecuador reported this Thursday that it was declared the "mandatory" vaccination against covid-19 among the eligible population due to "the current epidemiological status, that is, the increase in infected and the circulation of new variants of 'concern', such as omicron, "according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.
According to the statement, the measure has a legal basis: "Number 4 of article 6 of the Organic Health Law reads' declare the mandatory nature of immunizations against certain diseases, under the terms and conditions that the national and local epidemiological reality requires; define the standards and the basic national immunization scheme; and provide the population with the necessary elements to comply with it at no cost. '"

The Ministry added that "immunization will not be mandatory for people who present any medical condition or contraindication. For this, they must present a certificate."
The statement also affirms that Ecuador has the amount of vaccines necessary to immunize the entire population.
