Suluk Association for Training and Rehabilitation held today an exhibition of handmade products for people with disabilities from 12 to 25 years old, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, at Umayya Hotel in Damascus.

The exhibition, which was held under the auspices of the Cham Wings Airlines Company, included handicrafts from the association's products, the Vocational Rehabilitation Department, which varied between accessories, food products, textile industries and pottery.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Walaa Al-Hassan, explained to SANA that the exhibition is a message that these people are productive and that it is psychologically important to them, especially as it motivates them to develop their capabilities, noting that professional and academic training courses have been held, especially in the field of marketing.

For his part, Director of Development and Public Relations at Cham Wings Airlines, Osama Sate’a, stated that the offered products are a translation of the determination of people with disabilities, as they are presented with high professionalism and art that reflects their feelings and interest, adding that “there is an ongoing strategy to support these events at all levels.”

Doaa Al-Bastaky, a plastic artist, said that her participation in such exhibitions is important to overcome her disability because she paints with her feet, and the exhibition is an opportunity to market her products, noting that she aspires to hold an international exhibition outside Syria, while Nabil Ali Seif El-Din, who displays pottery products, pointed out that the exhibition is important in identifying the desires of Customers, getting to know other people and exchanging experiences and expertise with them, which is an expression that the people in it are capable of creativity and production.

In turn, the actor and dramatist Zaid Al-Zarif said that it is important to highlight this segment of society by demonstrating the creativity that exists in the participants’ products, benefiting from their effective energies, and making them aware that they have a great place in society, while Canada Al-Miqdad saw that the training provided to her son is important in his integration with society and in His ability to accomplish his own things on his own, and that what matters in training is to focus on modifying the behavioral aspect of people with disabilities and providing them with skills in making handicrafts. She advises parents who have such cases to work on integrating their children into society so that they have an active role in building it.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated on the 3rd of December after it was first approved by the United Nations in 1992 with the aim of supporting this category, integrating it into society and raising awareness of its issues.
