Geometric Gili C in test

2021-12-23T06:25:12.107Z

After being exposed to it at the local launch on a first drive, we took the Chinese hit on duty for a test in less sterile conditions. The conclusions are in front of you

As the owner of Lotus Elise, something in me hoped that some of the brand's DNA would go to the models of Gili, who has been the owner of Lotus for the past few years.

The British manufacturer not only sells sports cars but also sells development and behavior calibration services for other manufacturers, and depending on the amount of investment in costs and development hours it will determine whether it is possible to indicate that the vehicle was developed in collaboration with Lotus publicly.

If the amount of development Lotus has been involved in is low then this information will usually remain much more discreet among manufacturers.

Geely's Geometric C is neither a sports car nor does it claim to be one.

Thanks to being a fully electric vehicle it is possible to feel that the center of gravity is as low as other electric vehicles.

Turn it slightly more aggressively to the square closest to the house and feel it immediately with low roll angles and good vehicle restraint.

Even the tiny steering wheel, reminiscent in size of the lotus steering wheel, is numb but precise and sharp to the command - as is customary today.

The Geometric C is based on a petrol model, so if you open the hood you can see that it is indeed there, unlike most trams with a rear engine that drives the rear wheels.

Despite a respectable torque of 31.6 kg it has no problem lowering the power to the road through the front tires and only an aggressive pressure on the accelerator pedal (because you can not say gas pedal) at low speed will manage to make some noise and tire flicker.

It finishes at 100 km / h in 7.7 seconds, but like other trams, the feeling of agility comes at low speeds and as the speed increases, the sense of acceleration decreases significantly.

It has no problem sailing even at 120 km / h all day on the highway.

There except for a few noises from the wheelhouses and a little because of the mirrors the car nicely insulates the noises from the outside and allows to enjoy the successful audio system of the boss with 8 speakers.

It was just weird to find that the only way to control the volume is through the button on the steering wheel.

There is no extra button in the cabin or in the multimedia system, only the driver has the control and there are times it may bother.

The multimedia system itself is large (12.3 inches), easy to operate and responds quickly.

The only downside is the lack of interface to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay but on the other hand there is a built-in Wise (currently offered for free for 3 years) and the ability to stream music on Bluetooth, so no problem was really felt.

Another point that stood out in the negative in the cabin is the lack of storage compartments.

There is a fair amount, but the compartments in the doors were too narrow for the bottles and the generous compartment under the center console is wide so most of the things in it will swing from side to side.

If so far there has been a negative impression about the cabin then we will become the opposite.

This is a very airy place, thanks in part to a huge window on the roof that filtered the sun's rays well.

There is plenty of room for those sitting in the back and those sitting in the front who also enjoy electric seats (the passenger also but only in the senior version) and it will not be a problem to find a driving position.

Good visibility and thanks to the perimeter array of cameras you can see every corner of the car in the parking lots.

Personally I would be happy if it was possible to bring the steering wheel further out, but this is also a problem in my Lotus, and I am aware that I am unusual in my sitting position.

Back to the road to the traffic jams, where a period of getting used to the braking system is required.

It is possible to control the amount of regenerative braking from the electric motor and it is even possible with a little practice to drive the jelly only with the accelerator pedal unless it is necessary to reach a standing position.

The transition between electric braking and the use of car brakes is not entirely smooth and noticeable.

After some time calibration to the driver the transition is almost imperceptible.

The comfort calibration was slightly reminiscent of the Lotus as it is very successful in most driving conditions and only sharp breaks in the road were felt.

We got to test the 460 Pro version with a declared driving range of 460 km as its name implies.

Together with the addition of the double paint that paints the roof black, the brakes green and the seats are replaced by a more pleasant gray upholstery for touch, the price of Gili Geometric C is NIS 145,000.

I did not talk about the exterior design because the pictures will do more grace.

Some will love and some will not.

We liked, except for the front which we liked less, and most of the people on the road seemed to respond positively as well.

With a 70 kWh battery we managed to cover an impressive 405 km in varying driving conditions.

Those who drive a lot in traffic jams and especially will be closer to the declared range than those who drive outside the city.

So Geely Geometric C is not a lotus of course.

But it offers an elevated family car (it is at a height between a "regular" family car and a recreational vehicle) with very impressive interior space and equipment.

Good performance and driving range similar to a car with a petrol engine.

In other words, a great family and one of the whole family under NIS 150,000.
