(CNN) -
Former police officer Kim Potter of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, was found guilty of two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright, by a jury in Hennepin County court.
Kim Potter faced charges of aggravated manslaughter and manslaughter for fatally shooting Daunte Wright during a traffic stop and subsequent arrest on April 11, 2021. In body camera footage of the incident, Potter can be heard yelling "Taser" ("stun gun") repeatedly before shooting Wright.
Potter was initially charged with manslaughter in April.
Prosecutors added one count of aggravated manslaughter in early September.
Potter has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Although the maximum penalty for aggravated manslaughter is 15 years in prison, because Potter has no criminal record, Minnesota sentencing guidelines recommended a sentence of approximately 6 to 8.5 years in prison.
For the charge of willful manslaughter, the guidelines recommend between 3.5 and almost 5 years in prison.
In October, prosecutors informed the court that they intended to seek a harsher penalty than state guidelines require when Potter was sentenced.
This on the grounds that she abused her position of authority and that her conduct caused "a greater than normal danger to the safety of other people."
