Rif Dimashq-SANA
On the occasion of Christmas and New Year's Eve, the people of Maaloula lit the Christmas tree, with the participation of official and civil activities.
The event included a charitable bazaar for food products and handicrafts, some musical paragraphs for this occasion by the brass band, and an exhibition of handicrafts and food products that the town is famous for.
Director of Damascus Countryside Tourism, Engineer Muhammad Wael Kayal, indicated that lighting the Christmas tree today, as much as it is a festive tradition, is a message of peace from Syria to the whole world, and that Syria throughout history has been and will remain the cradle of religions and civilizations, and that historical and heritage monuments will remain present throughout time.
The city of Maaloula was chosen because it constitutes a living and rare museum with its monasteries, churches, caves and caves, in addition to its historical and spiritual importance, and that the vast majority of its residents speak the Aramaic language, the language of Christ, according to Kayal.
