More than 20,000 corona deaths in NRW

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, more than 20,000 people have died from or with the corona virus in North Rhine-Westphalia.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Thursday, 59 further corona-related deaths were reported from the most populous federal state within one day.
The number of deaths rose to 20 just before Christmas.

There were particularly many fatalities at the end of December last year, just before the corona vaccination campaign could start.
On December 22, 2020 alone there were 178 corona deaths in North Rhine-Westphalia, according to the data from the State Center for Health (LZG).
Meanwhile, the number of new corona infections fell slightly within a week in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The RKI gave the seven-day incidence on Thursday as 219.7 after 220.6 on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the number for new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week was 232.1.
An incidence of 280.3 was registered nationwide.
This means that NRW is still below the average for all countries.

The NRW health authorities reported 7415 new corona cases within 24 hours.
The Lippe district continues to have the highest incidence with 446.7.
This is followed by Remscheid (344.3) and the district of Mettmann (337.2).
It looked best in the Olpe district with a value of 115.5.
Despite falling corona numbers, people in North Rhine-Westphalia have to be prepared for further restrictions after Christmas at the latest after the federal-state resolutions on Tuesday due to the expected wave of infection from the Omikron virus variant.
