For the fifth time, the Herrschingen Bundesliga volleyball made it to the semi-finals of the DVV Cup, and for the fifth time they left the field as a loser.

In Lüneburg the WWK lost volleys after five sets.

Herrsching - The cup trauma of the WWK Volleys Herrsching continues.

On Wednesday evening, the Ammerseer lost 2: 3 (30:28, 19:25, 25:20, 18:25, 10:15) in a semi-final at SVG Lüneburg that was almost impossible to beat in terms of drama.

After 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020 it was the fifth defeat of the Herrsching Bundesliga club in the fifth cup semi-finals.

As in the previous year, when they failed in an even closer and more dramatic semifinals at the Netzhoppers Königs Wusterhausen, the SAP Arena in Mannheim, in which the DVV Cup final will be held, remains the longed-for destination of the WWK Volleys.

In the final, Lower Saxony will play against VfB Friedrichshafen or Berlin Recycling Volleys on March 6, 2022.

The classic, originally scheduled for Wednesday, had to be canceled due to several corona cases in the Berlin team.

A few hours after the defeat, Max Hauser was quite tidy.

"Tiebreak defeats really hurt," said the Herrsching coach.

The defeat is not as bad as last year against Königs Wusterhausen, because “we were cheated out of the win.

Today we lost in sport, so I can live better with that.

We are a young team, we will learn from it ”.

At some point you will make it through to the trophy, says Hauser, trying to encourage yourself and your team.

“We have now been in the semifinals five times.

In view of our possibilities, that's very neat. "

What were the reasons for the defeat in the end? “Our performance was not sufficient in all positions,” said captain Tim Peter the day after. “We were strong in assumption, in defense and in the block. In the attack we have to touch our own nose. ”For Hauser, in the end only Tim Peter (18 points) and Jori Mantha (16)“ were up to par. Ironically, the two who recently weakened a bit. In the middle and on the diagonal we were defeated ”.

In the end, it was just nuances that made the difference.

Both teams were almost equal in all elements (blocks 17:18, aces 5: 6, service errors 18:18, attack rate 41:46 percent, acceptance rate 48:50 percent).

The decisive player of the evening, however, was Jordan Ewert.

The American placed 24 of his 48 attacks in the Herrschinger Feld, successfully blocked seven times and scored a service winner.

Another stroke of luck for SVG coach Stefan Huebner was Arthur Nath.

The Brazilian came into play in the fourth set for the ailing Richard Peemüller and scored twelve points in the two sets.

What's next at the WWK Volleys Herrsching? After two days off from training, coach Hauser will be gathering his players again from December 25th. The trend-setting league match at the Netzhoppers Königs Wusterhausen is already on the program on December 28th. "Now there can be no more excuses," announced Tim Peter. “Now it's time to focus on what's coming.” After the guest appearance in Königs Wusterhausen, the new year will see the Derby in Unterhaching (January 6th) and the home game against Frankfurt (January 8th). The intermediate round is expected to start on January 22nd.

Then the Spaniard Jordi Ramon Ferragut will be there again.

The Spanish international was already in the squad in Lüneburg, but it would have been too early to play.

The play-offs are due at the end of February.

"Then we want to be a strong opponent," says Peter.

"The semifinals remain the goal of the season."
