The Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, John X, affirmed the depth of friendship between the two Orthodox Churches in Syria and Russia.
During his meeting today, the Russian parliamentary and religious delegation headed by Dmitry Sablin, Chairman of the Russian-Syrian Friendship Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Russian Duma in the Marian Patriarchate in Damascus, praised Russia's support for Syria in its war against terrorism.
Patriarch John X pointed out the importance of strengthening the existing relations between the two friendly countries and peoples, calling on the International Orthodox Parliamentary Assembly to hold its next meeting in Damascus, praising the support provided by the Assembly and the Russian friends to the Syrian people.
For his part, the head and members of the guest delegation stressed the importance of consolidating relations between the two churches and the two peoples and parliamentary institutions in the two countries.
They expressed their hope for the return of religious tourism to Syria to its previous era with the return of security and safety to its lands.
