The battle over the story: "Investigation" The head of the Mossad and the flight attendant were with the competitors - and were not published

Drucker's research on the secrets allegedly revealed by Yossi Cohen during an existing novel achieved a phenomenal rating, and re-raised the question of the privacy of the individual in the face of journalistic value.

Walla!

Brenze learned that even in News 12 and "Fact" there were attempts to verify the materials - and finally it was decided not to publish them

Almost pavlovily, after the broadcast, the journalistic question immediately arose on the networks: Is this really information of significant journalistic value, or purely yellow material that hangs on the security tree when the goal behind the broadcast is ratings and political intentions as part of the well-known right-left wars

On Tuesday this week, the "Source" program on Network 13 received an impressive, downright historical rating of 14.8%. This is the highest figure for a show since the merger of Channel Ten with a network about two years ago, but even a request would have been signed for such a figure, certainly for a show that is not a reality show.

The reason for the achievement is of course rooted in the nature of the investigation, or in fact the interview - which included all the sides of the ultimate television triangle: sex, politics and security secrets. In short: According to the investigation, former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen had an affair with a married woman, and was caught revealing to her and her ex-husband alleged state secrets.

Almost pavlovily, after the broadcast, the journalistic question immediately arose on the networks: Is it really information of significant journalistic value, or purely yellow material that hangs on the security tree when the goal behind the broadcast is ratings and political intentions as part of the well-known right-left wars.

This question is hard to answer, but the Walla!

Tarbut Amit Slonim summed up the issue well the next day: "Drucker's investigation was based on one" source "testimony that managed to be credible and convincing. The heart of the investigation is completely yellow. Relationships in front of her husband's (rightly) suspicious eyes ... The justification for broadcasting the investigation lies in the fact that the former head of the Mossad, and does not rule out the possibility of running for prime minister in the future, was caught revealing alleged state secrets in order to seize a pardon. This ... his problematic conduct, to say the least, in the stewardess affair had to be exposed - and well done 13 network and the "source" system that decided to broadcast the investigation, despite the inconvenience involved. "

Were in contact with a liar (L.).

In News 12 they were in contact with a liar

The news in News 12 included a short insert by the same guy who lied (the divorcee, the main and only witness), which includes his claims that he was fired due to Cohen's connection with his ex-wife. This is much less powerful material than Drucker obtained, certainly from a television standpoint - with an exposed interviewee in front of a camera and with all the correspondence

But now the story is taking a turn, and it turns out that it is possible that the correspondence and materials published by Drucker actually came into the hands of the competitors in Keshet - and those chose not to publish them, at least according to claims. To understand the sequence of events one has to go back a few months. On July 19 this year, News Edition 13 opened with dramatic information from Drucker. According to the report, Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit is investigating a complaint received regarding a criminal relationship between former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen and a flight attendant who provided classified information.

By the way, in a critical polo report he published about him at Globes at the time, Avishai Grinzig, Drucker hinted at the materials and clarified that "we would not have published the complaint if we did not have our own investigation confirming the following details: 1. There is a flight attendant. "At least 3. Many details were passed in violation of basic information security rules, some of which are apparently very problematic. I stand behind these facts independently regardless of the complaint and this was stated in the initial report. With or without a complaint."

Back to competitors.

Following Drucker's initial publication in July, News 12 published in the main edition "First conversation with L. - a former employee of a large investment company, who claims that he was fired due to the unusual connection between his ex-wife and former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen." Cohen-law of Joseph and the controlling shareholder of the company where he worked, knew about the relationship exception between him and my wife. "

the news included an insert short (voice) of that guy lied (divorced, the key witness and the only one), which included allegations that dismissed due to contact Cohen ex-wife. This is a matter far less powerful than Drucker achieved, certainly in terms of television - the respondent is exposed in front of the camera with any correspondence.

indeed, it became clear that the news 12 were already in contact with the lie, many factors have wondered this week why he chose an interview with Drucker if he could get Double rating on the competing channel.

Polishing or residue.

The affairs of the novel are less important for publication

It is important to understand that there is no one sweeping truth in this story: a particular subject can reach several systems, be examined with the aim of reaching a mature and journalistic value item - and finally fall for many reasons

Walla! Brenze learned that News 12 actually knew the materials, and thought at the time that the novel's affairs were less important for publication, and the claim for dismissal, on the other hand, was yes. However, although News 12 had contacts and dialogue with a liar, at no point was an interview or program in the format finally broadcast by Drucker - who first brought the betrayed husband in front of a camera, with detailed correspondence about the nature of the relationship and the details Cohen revealed during it.

Walla! Brenze also learned that the "Fact" investigative program also knew about the materials, and even made efforts to verify them, but in the end it was decided not to continue promoting the issue, among other things for legitimate journalistic considerations. It should also be noted that the materials broadcast by Drucker are worthy of discussion, but in Drucker's decision to frame him - in a comprehensive and complete interview in front of a camera - there is a gap and it is legitimate.

It is important to understand that there is no one sweeping truth in this story: a particular subject can reach multiple systems, be tested with the aim of reaching a mature and journalistic value item - and finally fall for many reasons.

In this context it is interesting to recall that exactly 4 years ago it was unveiled at Walla!

Brenze that News 12 (then "The News") originally paid a sum in the order of $ 15,000 for recordings of the prime minister's son so Yair Netanyahu touring strip clubs with businessman Kobi Maimon's son.

Despite criticism of the materials being yellow, the "news" then justified the move in part because of its public importance and said at the time that "the motive of the source was not financial."

Now it seems that this is a 180-degree change from that decision, when the public significance is at least no less, or as a senior journalist defined it, "Yair Netanyahu, it was not even gossip. It was porn."

Comments

Marbiv Drucker responded: "Despite my requests, the journalist did not agree to contact the journalists who tried to persuade Shikar to be interviewed. Their requests are well documented and are, of course, legitimate. What is illegitimate is to say you did not want to send an anonymous version His work. "

No response was received from "Fact" and News 12.
