The "Pillar of National Sorrow", which has been erected on the campus of the University of Hong Kong for more than 20 years, was approved by the school council yesterday (22nd) to move away from the campus of the University of Hong Kong. Covered by white cloth, a large number of workers wearing helmets entered the station.
After several reporters learned of the incident, they rushed to the University of Hong Kong to conduct interviews, but more than 30 security guards intercepted in front of the hoarding.
Those present were unable to witness the demolition process, but the sound of the project could still be heard across the wall.
As of today (23rd) at about 4 am, the demolition project is roughly completed, and the "Pillar of National Sorrow" was disassembled and moved into the container to be moved away from Hong Kong University.
At 7 am, the container truck was escorted by a police car and moved away from the campus of the University of Hong Kong, and was taken to the Kadoorie Center of the University of Hong Kong.
The container is placed in an open space.
Danish sculptor Jens Galschiøt (Jens Galschiøt), the creator of "Pillars of National Sorrow", made a statement early on Thursday (23rd) after learning about it.
He reiterated in the statement that the "Pillar of National Sorrow" is his private property and will only be exhibited at the University of Hong Kong, and will require the school to compensate for any damage to the sculpture.
He still plans to remove the "Pillar of National Sorrow" and ship it to Denmark.
