The two male deceased Zhao Gao (38) and Fan Zhuliang (34) were suspected of inhaling biogas while working in the sewage well and died, leaving their young children behind.
This morning (23rd) the families of the two deceased went to the Kwai Chung Public Mortuary to go through the formalities for corpse recognition.
At 11 o'clock in the morning, Zhao Gao and Fan Zhuliang's family members left after confessing their bodies, and everyone was sad.
It is understood that the widows of the two deceased and their family members will have a meeting with representatives of the involved companies and the Airport Authority at the Industrial Injury Rights Association this afternoon. They are expected to discuss the cause of the accident and compensation.
The incident occurred yesterday (22nd) morning when two male workers accidentally fell into a sewage well on Chun Kwan Road in Chek Lap Kok.
Rescuers rescued them and sent them to North Lantau Hospital, where they were later certified dead.
The police stated that after preliminary investigations, it is believed that Fan Nan and Zhao Nan fainted unwell after inhaling unknown gas during the site inspection and fell into the well.
The case is an industrial accident, and the cause of death has yet to be determined after an autopsy.
A spokesman for the Airport Authority said that he was deeply saddened by the incident and expressed his deep condolences to his family members. He said that he would contact the contractor as soon as possible to contact the workers' family members to provide support and assistance.
The spokesperson also pointed out that before the start of the whole project, the contractor had conducted risk assessments and related tests for the relevant processes. The relevant workers were all qualified persons and had received relevant training. The contractor had to conduct safety inspections in accordance with the procedures. Just started working.
