Once again, the AfD parliamentary group in the Brandenburg state parliament is trying in vain to overturn the corona restrictions.

The state government, on the other hand, uses the stage in parliament for an urgent warning of the Omikron wave.

Potsdam - Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has warned of the possible dramatic consequences of the spread of the omicron variant of the corona virus. "The situation is worrying," he said on Thursday in Potsdam in a special session of the state parliament on the corona restrictions. "Unfortunately, in the fourth corona wave, a fifth wave is already building up."

Because of the high risk of infection from the Omikron variant, the infrastructure could be endangered, warned the head of government. In addition to the health system, this included the police and fire brigade as well as the energy supply. Therefore, a crisis team will be set up in the Ministry of the Interior in order to be able to react quickly. Woidke assured that the prime ministers and the federal government would also be available over the holidays and the turn of the year in order to take further measures against the spread of the corona virus in an emergency.

Health Minister Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens) spoke of a "new dimension in the pandemic" with the Omikron variant. "Due to the greatly increased transferability and the undermining of immune protection, an explosive spread with doubling times of two to three days is to be expected," warned the minister. Together with Woidke, she called on citizens to have corona vaccinations. At the same time, she warned of the possible consequences of the numerous demonstrations by anti-vaccination agents. "We do not understand that the infection process is fueled by demonstrations or torchlight procession," emphasized Nonnemacher.

The special session of the state parliament was requested by 18 members of the AfD parliamentary group after the decisions of the federal-state conference.

In his speech, AfD parliamentary group leader Hans-Christoph Berndt once again called for the abolition of all corona restrictions and vehemently spoke out against compulsory vaccination.

Even two years after the start of the pandemic, there are still no convincing investigations into the infection process, said Berndt in support of the reason.

A corresponding application by the AfD was rejected by a large majority in the state parliament.

CDU parliamentary group leader Jan Redmann accused Berndt of spreading false information.

The corona restrictions and the prudent behavior of the population have prevented the health system from collapsing, said Redmann.

However, Redmann referred to the high burden of doctors and nurses who would have to do their work under difficult conditions with full protection.
