The girl is not now called "Tess", although she was born in a Tesla.

But his parents thought for a moment.

Paoli - The pregnant woman just wanted to go to the hospital to get the birth with the help of medical staff.

A traffic jam got in her way - and the help of the “autopilot” of the Tesla in which she was sitting.

Here her amniotic sac burst.

But the rush hour in Paoli, Pennsylvania only progressed at a snail's pace.

When she finally got to the clinic, the baby was already born.

The Philadelphia Inquirer

first reported the incident.

On this memorable 9th September, 33-year-old Yiran Sherry was actually in the Tesla e-car * to take her three-year-old son to preschool.

Her husband was behind the wheel, she in the passenger seat, the two described.

But then it was clear that their goal would change.

Her husband immediately activated "Autopilot".

So he only had to keep his hand slightly on the wheel while keeping an eye on his son in the back seat and holding his wife's hand.

He entered the nearest hospital into the navigation system.

The next 20 minutes would have felt like hours, Sherry told the daily.

Birth in an electric car from Tesla: "Oh my God, it's here"

"Oh my god, she's here," she then whispered, just as she turned towards the clinic.

A nurse cut the umbilical cord over the driver's seat of the car.

Her colleagues would only have called her child the "Tesla baby".

The incident in which a moving car turned into a childbirth bed spread immediately.

For "a minute" they even considered giving their daughter the middle name "Tess", based on Tesla, the new parents described.

But her name is Maeve Lily now.

"Many thanks to the ingenious Tesla engineers for their brilliant development of the autopilot,"

Tesla boss Elon Musk has been criticized for autopilot

Has Tesla founder Elon Musk * heard of this story?

His company's handling of the “Autopilot” driver assistance system came under closer scrutiny by the US traffic authorities in October.

At the time, the regulators wanted to know why an update to prevent rear-end collisions with fire and ambulance vehicles standing on the roadside was not declared a recall.

They also have questions about tests of a new “Autopilot” version with more functions by Tesla customers.

The agency has been investigating eleven incidents between January 2018 and July 2021 in which Tesla electric cars hit parked ambulances since the summer.

There were 17 injuries and one death.

The "autopilot" system was switched on in all affected Tesla vehicles.

The group itself pointed out that “autopilot” is just a driver assistance system and that drivers always have to keep their hands on the wheel and keep an eye on the traffic situation.

“Autopilot” can, for example, keep the lane and the distance to the vehicle in front.
