Corona test center on the Odelzhaus fire station is well received

Odelzhausen - There is currently a lot of activity at the Corona test center in Odelzhausen.

The volunteers can carry out up to 134 antigen tests in a two-hour shift - and thus make a major contribution to containing the pandemic.

“The test center is an absolute success story,” emphasizes Mayor Markus Trinkl.

"A big thank you to the volunteers who do all of this alongside their job."

The test station was set up by the Odelzhauser pharmacist Manfred Weyerer together with the community.

Weyerer initially offered the tests in a small market stall in front of the Vital pharmacy.

But the space was not ideal: if you wanted a test, you had to wait on the sidewalk, there was not enough parking space, and the hut was not heated.

Trinkl and the municipal administration finally had the idea of using the former BRK rooms in the fire station for the test station.

At first there were concerns on the part of the fire brigade that problems could arise if an alarm is triggered and people are waiting in the driveway. But that is a thing of the past, emphasizes Commander Benny Küpper: “When we are alerted, the staff at the test station pay close attention to safety and clear the way for us. It has always worked smoothly so far. ”It goes without saying that the fire brigade should help in the pandemic.

The helpers are all the more pleased about a surprise from pharmacist Manfred Weyerer: He has donated new tracksuits for the emergency services.

"With that I just want to say a little thank you," said Weyerer.

"Because it is not a matter of course that we were able to find shelter with our corona test station at the fire brigade." The pharmacist is very happy with the solution.

"Here we have sophisticated logistics and great IT," he explains.

The testers wait on a large area outdoors, which reduces the risk of infection.

The helpers work in teams of three.

They record the registrations at one station, and then take the tests at another.

Because you have to book an appointment in advance, there are no long waiting times.

Testing has been ongoing in Odelzhausen since May.

The test center continued to operate even after the cost of the tests was no longer covered and many other stations were closed.

Manfred Weyerer emphasizes: “It's not about making a profit with the tests.” He therefore continues to use the highest quality tests available on the market.

And he made a very generous donation: Together with the helpers, he decided to donate 5,000 euros for the Odelzhauser community foundation and a further 5,000 euros for national social projects.

“In this way, the money goes back to the general public,” says Mayor Markus Trinkl, happily.

Information about the test station:

The test station on the premises of the Odelzhausen fire brigade is usually open two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon.

Appointments can be booked at https://app.no-q.info/vital-apotheke-odelzhausen/checkins#/ (information for questions about booking: phone 0 81 34/55 96 63; email to vital-apotheke- odelzhausen@gmx.de).

There are rapid antigen tests; only symptom-free people are tested.

It is closed on Christmas Eve, the Christmas holidays and New Year's Eve, otherwise the test center is also open between the years.
