The President of the current session of the United Nations General Assembly, Abdullah Shahid, stressed that Russia plays a role in maintaining international peace.
"Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has always played a central role in maintaining global peace and security," RIA Novosti news agency quoted a witness as saying today, adding: "It is very important that major countries like Russia are on the front lines in solving the issues of our time."
Noting that Russia has always called for the central coordinating role of the United Nations in world politics, he said: "We welcome its support for the work of the United Nations General Assembly and its fruitful role in the work of all six main committees."
Shahid explained that Russia also contributes its vital part to global and international efforts to combat Corona and provide assistance to a number of countries affected by the pandemic.
