On December 23, 2016, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2334, in which it affirmed that Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories are illegal and a flagrant violation of international law, calling on (Israel) to stop settlement operations, but in light of the international community’s failure to implement the resolution, which the United States refrained from Vote on it, the occupation increased the pace of its settlement plans and seized large areas of Palestinian land.
The National Bureau for Defending Land and Resisting Settlements of the Palestine Liberation Organization clarified in its weekly report issued today on its website that the five years since the issuance of the decision have not witnessed a slowdown in the pace of settlement. More than 280 new outposts, comprising more than 26,331 settlement units, compared to 10,331 units established between 2013 and 2016.
The report pointed out that the terrorism practiced by settlers against Palestinians under the protection of the occupation forces has reached unprecedented levels, especially in the cities of Nablus and Hebron, indicating that the number of martyrs who were killed by the Israeli bullets in the West Bank this year has reached 84, while the international community is satisfied with expressing its concern without taking any action. A practical step to stop the crimes of the occupation forces and settlers.
With regard to the violations of the occupation last week, the report documented the demolition of a house in the town of Jabal Mukaber in occupied Jerusalem and another in the town of Nahalin in Bethlehem, and their appropriation of 20 dunums of Palestinian lands in the Khallet Hassan area of Salfit and the razing of agricultural lands in the village of Deir Nidham west of Ramallah to expand settlement operations .
The report pointed out that the settlers continue their attacks on the cities and towns of the West Bank under the protection of the occupation forces, as they stormed the Hawar area in Hebron, the village of Burqa in Nablus, the town of Ramin in Tulkarm, and Khirbet Humsa al-Tahta in the northern Jordan Valley, and attacked Palestinian homes and properties, as well as the road between Jenin and Nablus, and attacked Palestinian vehicles. They uprooted more than 300 olive plants and bulldozed areas of Tarqumiya town in Hebron to build a settlement road, while a Palestinian woman was killed after she was run over by a settler's car north of Ramallah.
