A fire in a cell in the central prison of Poissy (Yvelines) mobilized around fifty firefighters during Christmas night.
The fire broke out around 10 p.m. Friday, December 24.
It generated a significant release of smoke in the enclosure of the prison.
The detainee who occupied the cell concerned, poisoned by carbon monoxide fumes, was transported to the Poissy hospital center.
The 51-year-old also suffered from burns to his hands and neck.
His condition improved overnight.
He is the subject of prosecution for "destruction of public property by fire".
When help arrived, the fire had been brought under control by prison staff.
But the firefighters were still at work at 2 am, to ensure the ventilation of this prison, located in the city center.
The operation mobilized eleven emergency vehicles.
