Strengthening the response to the Corona pandemic and taking greater protection measures in terms of limiting the spread of the virus and providing the vaccine against it are among the priorities that the Ministry of Health worked on during 2021, in addition to continuing to rehabilitate a number of hospitals and health centers affected by terrorism, along with medical achievements locally and globally.

In April, the Ministry began providing the vaccine against Corona to medical staff, then on May 5, it launched a platform on its website to register those wishing to take it through the centers and hospitals, which number today, 930 centers and hospitals.

On the 5th of September, the Ministry launched a national vaccination campaign against Corona in all governorates for a period of two weeks, followed by the allocation of mobile teams on the 27th of October to vaccinate those wishing in ministries, government institutions and public places with large gatherings, and it continues to do so in all governorates.

Despite the difficulties experienced by the health sector due to the effects of the terrorist war on Syria and the spread of the Corona pandemic, the ministry has made achievements at the global level, including the obtaining of the ISO certificate for medical work and its quality by the Directorate of Health of Damascus Countryside and the Qatana and Qatif National Hospitals in mid-January.

On the 28th of May, the World Health Assembly, at its 74th session, unanimously elected a Syrian to the membership of the Executive Council of the World Health Organization, representing the Eastern Mediterranean Region for a period of three years.
