Hope for spring: the market church in Dorfen will soon be finished

The renovation of the market church in Dorfen is coming to an end.

Work is currently in progress in the interior.

Dorfen - The extensive renovation work on the St. Veit market church in Dorfen has been going on for a whole decade.

The first planning began in 2011.

The church administration of the parish Maria Dorfen is now confident that all work will be completed in spring 2022.

The total costs were calculated at 1.9 million euros, says church administration director Daniel Helmecke of our newspaper when asked.

The external work on the roof structure and church tower as well as the master builder work have been completed, reports Helmecke.

Because the roof had to be removed during the construction phase, a roof structure was built to protect the nave from the weather and the building was completely covered.

Now that the protective tarpaulins and the scaffolding have been removed, the market church and tower shine in new beauty as the central focal point in the city center.

Masonry and installation work is currently ongoing throughout the nave.

The wall and ceiling paintings are thoroughly cleaned and preserved.

The old gallery was a "permanent provisional", according to Helmecke, and was replaced by a new, larger gallery.

The chancel is being rebuilt.

In the center there will also be a new altar.

The project is financed by the Archbishop's Ordinariate, but the parish must also contribute according to its possibilities.

One would also like to have a new organ for the market church, says Helmecke.

However, due to the development of costs, he currently sees no possibility of buying such an expensive church instrument.

It has now been almost exactly a year since strangers set fire to the protective tarpaulin outside the church for two nights in a row.

The fires were extinguished quickly and there was no major damage.

The Kripo assumed arson.
