The Deputy Prime Minister of Poland and the head of the ruling party in the country, Jaroslav Kaczynski, said last night (Friday) that Germany was trying to turn the EU into the Fourth German Reich.
In a conversation with the right-wing Polish newspaper GPC quoted in the Guardian, the head of the Law and Justice Party (PiS) said that some countries "are not enthusiastic about the possibility of building a fourth German Reich on the basis of the European Union".
"If we, the Poles, had agreed with this kind of modern surrender - we would have been humiliated in different ways," Kaczynski said.
He added that the European Court of Justice serves as a "tool" for federalist ideas.

Poland is in a prolonged stalemate with the EU, especially in light of the legal changes that PiS has been promoting since 2015 in Poland.
The EU said this week that it was initiating legal proceedings against Poland for disregarding its laws and undermining judicial independence in the country.
Poland, on the other hand, accused the bloc of "bureaucratic centralization."
During a visit to Warsaw by new German Chancellor Olaf Schultz, this month Prime Minister Mataus Morveyecki said Berlin's support for EU federalism was "utopian and therefore dangerous".
