“It's a nightmare…” Pascal Pelain, the mayor (UDI) has a blank voice this Saturday morning.
A few hours before dawn, the chosen one went to the scene of a tragedy which mourned the town on Christmas night: a little earlier, three people lost their lives in a traffic accident.
The precise circumstances remain to be determined but some elements are already certain.
The facts took place shortly after 4:30 am on Boulevard Charles-de-Gaulle, this long road that bypasses the Chanteraines park at the entrance to Villeneuve.
On the road, no one except this car with five people in their twenties on board.
Everything changes when the driver arrives at the roundabout at number 254, just next to the park entrance.
For reasons still unknown, he lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree head-on.
" There are no words… "
One of the passengers is ejected.
Not the others.
When the firefighters disembark, they discover an apocalyptic scene.
Two people are still stuck in the pile of crushed sheets.
The fire brigade (BSPP) had to dispatch a rescue truck to extract the victims trapped in the wreckage.
In total, no less than 40 soldiers are taking matters into their own hands.
The results are appalling.
"When we arrived, two people had already died and two others were in absolute urgency," said an officer of the BSPP.
They were evacuated to a hospital center under motorized escort.
After the emergency services, it was the accident experts who took to the scene in order to clearly establish what happened.
According to a person close to the case, the wet pavement and probably the speed would have played a role in this drama.
“There are no words, adds Pascal Pelain, clearly shocked.
All my thoughts are of course with the families and loved ones of the victims… ”
