The corona infection numbers are picking up speed again in many countries.
The virus variant Omikron worries scientists.
In France, too, the numbers are skyrocketing.
Paris - Spain and Portugal have recently become high-risk areas again.
The German federal government and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) put the two popular holiday countries back on the risk list.
The reason for this: increasing numbers of infections and the spread of the Omikron virus variant.
The virus continues to rage in Germany's direct neighbor, France.
The numbers skyrocketed around the Christmas holidays and hit a sad record since the pandemic began.
Coronavirus: France with over 100,000 new infections
According to the Johns Hopkins University, a total of 9,192,843 people (as of December 26, 2021) have been infected with the virus in France since the beginning of the pandemic.
For comparison: In Germany there are so far 6,999,476 infected people.
According to official information from Saturday evening (December 25th), the number of new infections reached a new record in one day in France: 104,611 people contracted the corona virus in one day.
The seven-day incidence in our neighboring country is around 647. Like Spain and Portugal, France is also on the list of high-risk areas, but since December 19.
Coronavirus in France: special government meeting
In France, around 73 percent of the population are currently fully vaccinated.
The French are slightly better than Germany, with around 71 percent fully vaccinated.
In contrast, in Germany (36 percent), more people than in France (30 percent) received a booster vaccination.
In view of the skyrocketing numbers, the French government wants to change the access rules to restaurants and cultural establishments.
So far, as in other parts of public life, the 3G regulation still applies there.
In the future, however, a negative test should no longer be sufficient.
The government around President Emmanuel Macron wants to lay down a corresponding new law in a special session, which should then be passed in mid-January.
